Mezzosoprano Turid Stanghelle > info |
|
Born in Oslo, lived for several years in the Southern part of Norway, now situated at Nesodden near Oslo. After working several years as a teacher, she started a career as a singer. She was educated at "Barratt Due's Music Institute" and "Østlandets Musikkonservatorium" in Oslo. She studied singing by Tove Rossow and Svein Bjørkøy in Oslo, and Professor Oren Brown at the "Julliard School of Music" in New York. As a mezzosoprano, she has performed with sacred music, recitals, been a soloist with choirs and orchestras, sung musicals and operas, and been recorded for the radio and television as well as on CD's. She has been representing the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in USA, Spain, Poland and Iceland. She has participated in operas such as "Carmen", "Don Juan 2000", Dido and Aeaneas" and "Kristin Lavransdatter", and at The National Opera in Oslo. Her broad repertoire contains opera, classical songs, musicals, negro spirituals, Norwegian songs and hymns. March 2004 CCTV sent a 30-minutes documentary called "Half Sky", about Turid Stanghelle and her singing career, broadcasted all over China. She has also been singing and acting in an 18-episodes TV-series about handicapped Mark Wang from China, called "Hold up the blue sky of life". The series started in August 2003 and continued throughout 2005 on all province-channels in China. Turid played "Shen Lipeng" (Mark Wangs mother) in the opera-musical "Some Sunny Night" by Thomas Stanghelle, which had it's premiere at the 50-year anniversary of Sunnaas Rehabilitation Hospital 2004. Turid also performed in the new and extended version of "Some Sunny Night" which had its World-premiere in The Great Hall of The People in Beijing, a co-operation with China National Opera. The new version of "Some Sunny Night"©, also including Ketil and Mark's inspiration Grete Waitz (known as the "marathon-queen" after winning nine New York City Marathons) had its first premiere in USA September 2006 at the Sorg Opera House, Ohio and Central Park, New York City. US media seemed to agree with Norwegian and Chinese press, with reviews such as "An extremly good show", "I didn't know a respiratory ailment could lead to something so cheery" and "The most professional thing ever seen in this city". The media also embraced Turid Stanghelle´s part: "Thomas Stanghelle and his mother Turid movingly portrait Wang and his mother Shen Liping". Turid Stanghelle was also singing the same part when the EU-premiere took place in the European Headquarter, Residence Palace Theatre, Brussels November 21st 2006. With the support of IOC-president Jacques Rogge, the EU-parliament and UNESCO, the best of European, American and Chinese artists together created an unforgetable international version of "Some Sunny Night"©. The last few years Turid has also been busy singing in the Stanghelle´s family-project "Three Generations". The true musical heritage of her family is certainly shining through when touring with her son, tenor/composer Thomas Stanghelle, and her singing mother, soprano Mathilde Marker, still going strong at the age of 89! Educated in classical singing, Mathilde did her first record-relase in 1963, and is now as busy as ever, constantly touring with her grandchild Thomas and her daughter Turid. The full-length album "Three Generations" was released 2004, while the demand for a follow-up by the public led to a new album "Three Generations 2", released 2006. The creative family has now released a Christmas album called "Jul i Tre Generasjoner" (Christmas in Three Generations) - released November 2007. |
